The Hogbetsotso Festival is one of Ghana’s most significant traditional celebrations, commemorating the migration of the Anlo people from Notsie in present-day Togo under Torgbui Agorkorli to their current homeland. It serves as an important time for reflection on the Anlo people’s history, resilience, and cultural identity.
This year’s Mini-Hogbetsotso Festival promises to be an exciting cultural event featuring traditional drumming and dancing, the display of artefacts, crafts exhibitions, and performances showcasing the rich heritage of the Anlo people.
According to the official programme released by the Festival Planning Committee and sighted by the Ghana News Agency (GNA), the event is being organised by the Anlo Dukor Council in collaboration with the Mafi Traditional Council and the Ghana Exim Bank.
The organisers described the celebration as an opportunity for the youth to learn about their heritage, express creativity, and strengthen their connection to ancestral traditions. They added that the festival would also foster unity and collaboration among communities, promoting development through shared identity and purpose.
“The festival is an excellent opportunity for our young people to reconnect with our culture and heritage, and also for communities to come together for development,” the statement said.
Mr Raymond Kumatsey, a citizen of Anlo, told GNA that the Mini-Hogbetsotso festival holds deep cultural and social significance for the Anlo people.
“The festival honours our history and traditions while providing an opportunity for the community to reflect on our shared identity and responsibilities. It will also positively impact the local economy as traders and artisans prepare to showcase their products,” he said.
Local organisers have assured that all logistical and hospitality arrangements are in place to accommodate the expected large influx of visitors, chiefs, and dignitaries.
Among the notable dignitaries expected to attend are:
- Togbi Sri III, Awoamefia of Anlo Dukor
- Togbi Agbesi Awusu II, Awadada of Anlo
