The Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ghana, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has formally drawn the attention of the Commonwealth of Nations to the recent attack on Ghanaian peacekeepers serving in southern Lebanon.
The move follows an incident on March 6, 2026, in which two Ghanaian soldiers serving with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) were seriously injured after their unit came under attack during operations in the area.

According to the Foreign Affairs Ministry, Ghana has strongly condemned the attack and is calling on the international community to support efforts to ensure accountability.
By bringing the issue before the Commonwealth, the government aims to mobilize broader diplomatic backing for the protection of peacekeeping personnel deployed in conflict zones.
Hon.Ablakwa noted that attacks on peacekeepers undermine global efforts to maintain peace and security and violate international humanitarian law. He stressed that personnel serving under the United Nations flag must be protected at all times as they carry out their duties to support stability in troubled regions.
The government has therefore called for a full, impartial, and transparent investigation into the incident to identify those responsible and bring them to justice.
Ghana also urged international partners to work together to strengthen security arrangements for UN peacekeeping missions to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Ghana remains one of the major contributors to United Nations peacekeeping operations worldwide and has consistently demonstrated its commitment to promoting global peace and security through the deployment of its military personnel to various missions.
The Foreign Affairs Ministry says it will continue to engage with international bodies and partners to ensure that the safety and welfare of Ghanaian troops serving abroad remain a top priority.
