About 5,000 to be recruited into security services this year

The Minister for the Interior, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, has disclosed that about 5,000 personnel will be recruited into Ghana’s security services this year as part of efforts to strengthen the country’s security institutions.

According to figures released following the Minister’s address, the Ghana Police Service will take the largest share of recruits. Approximately 2,500 applicants with BECE and WASSCE certificates are expected to be enlisted as general recruits.

In addition, the Police Service will recruit 500 Cadet Officers from applicants who hold higher qualifications such as HND, bachelor’s degrees, and master’s degrees.

The Ghana Immigration Service is expected to recruit 1,000 applicants across its various entry categories to support border management and immigration operations.

Similarly, the Ghana Prisons Service will recruit 500 personnel, while the Ghana National Fire Service is also expected to enlist 500 new recruits.

When combined, the recruitment exercise across the four security services will see about 5,000 new personnel joining the country’s security sector this year.

Authorities have, however, reminded applicants that the recruitment process remains highly competitive due to the limited number of available slots. As a result, some qualified candidates may not be selected despite meeting the requirements.

Officials have therefore encouraged unsuccessful applicants not to lose hope, noting that future recruitment opportunities may become available in subsequent years, including the next cycle expected in 2027.
