Oti Regional Police Commander engages Nkwanta community, promotes peace and stability

The Ghana Police Service has stepped up efforts to restore calm in Nkwanta through direct community engagement following recent violent incidents in the area.

On March 26, 2026, the Oti Regional Police Commander, Alex Acquah, led a delegation of senior officers to Nkwanta, where he met with police personnel to encourage vigilance, discipline, and professionalism in the discharge of their duties.

As part of the visit, the Commander also led a joint security team, including personnel from the military, intelligence services, and other agencies,to the Zongo community. There, they met with the Zongo Chief, Alhaji Issaka Kayaba, and his elders.

During the engagement, the Commander conveyed condolences on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police and the Police Management Board to families who lost three adult male members in the recent attacks in the Nkwanta South Municipality.

In response, the Chief assured the delegation of the community’s commitment to peace, non-retaliation, and coexistence, signaling a willingness among residents to support ongoing stability efforts.

The Regional Commander further visited Dadaga to inspect the site of a previous arson incident that claimed two lives, as part of efforts to assess the situation on the ground.

Authorities say the continued engagement forms part of a broader strategy to strengthen trust between security agencies and communities, while preventing further escalation of violence.

The police have urged residents of Nkwanta and surrounding areas to remain calm, law-abiding, and cooperative with security agencies. They also cautioned against the spread of misinformation and called for restraint as operations to maintain peace continue.
