Residents of Twifo Atti Morkwa demand speed rumps and road signs to curb rising accidents

Residents, drivers, and passengers in the Twifo Atti Morkwa District of the Central Region are calling on the government and the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) to urgently provide speed rumps and road signs along major routes in the area.

The demand follows frequent accidents, particularly along the Twifo Praso–Morkwa stretch, Bremang–Agona through Mintaso, Kotokye–Denkyira–Awusiem, Dunkwa-On-Offin, and the Twifo Praso–Cape Coast roads. Sharp curves between Morkwa and Agona, as well as Kotokye and Awusiem, have become notorious accident-prone spots.

According to locals, at least two accidents occur weekly, often blamed on speeding and the absence of proper warning signs and speed control measures. Mr. George Sem Frimpong, Assembly Member for the Morkwa-Sebenso Electoral Area, said the situation was dire and urged contractors and road authorities to act without delay.

Mr. Joseph Arthur, Road Safety Officer for Twifo-Atti-Morkwa and Twifo-Hemang-Lower-Denkyira Districts, confirmed the trend and noted that while authorities were educating drivers on traffic compliance, enforcement alone was not enough. He stressed that installing road signs and speed rumps would help reduce the high rate of accidents and save lives.
