The Management Development and Productivity Institute (MDPI) is preparing to roll out customised training programmes for both public and private institutions in Ghana as part of efforts to boost productivity and strengthen workers’ contributions to organisational goals.
At an engagement session with human resources officers from 13 public organisations, Professor Elijah Yendaw, Director-General of MDPI, reaffirmed the institute’s commitment to providing sustainable support to organisations. Attendees included the Bank of Ghana, Ghana Export Promotion Authority, the National Lotteries Authority, and Ghana Shippers Authority.

Prof. Yendaw underscored the need for capacity-building and re-engagement with institutions previously trained by MDPI while bringing new organisations on board. He stressed that productivity improvements are key to reducing poverty and achieving national goals. “For Ghana to be able to move to its destination in terms of enhancing productivity across various agencies, it is important that MDPI takes interest in terms of reconnecting with all the past organisations that they had trained and new ones,” he said.
He added that workers’ dedication, mindset preparation, and the practical application of skills were essential to enhancing workplace productivity. “What you learn in the classroom is not just enough. You need to practicalize the kind of things that are required to enhance productivity in those organisations,” he noted, urging HR managers to convince their leadership to take MDPI training seriously.
The session also gave managers the opportunity to highlight the need for more practical and experiential learning, as well as improved training environments. Prof. Yendaw assured participants that efforts were underway with the sector minister to secure funding to address infrastructure gaps. He revealed plans to complete MDPI’s office building to provide a more conducive space for training delivery across the country.
Deputy Director-General Mr Lambert Zantira Ajongban highlighted MDPI’s longstanding role in driving productivity in Ghana through management training, advisory services, and research. He explained that the institute had extended its impact beyond Ghana, supporting countries such as the Gambia, Sierra Leone, Liberia, and Nigeria with tailored programmes since the 1990s.
Mr Ajongban noted that language limitations had hindered support for Francophone countries but reaffirmed the institute’s ongoing collaboration with Anglophone nations. He called for greater government funding to strengthen MDPI’s infrastructure and expand mindset and attitude training initiatives across state institutions.
MDPI continues to offer a range of services, including management and productivity enhancement programmes, capacity-building, consultancy, and customised training solutions tailored to the specific needs of client organisations.
