According to the NHIA, the suspension took effect on 14th May 2026 following a routine claims verification exercise that identified material irregularities in claims and service transactions linked to the facilities.

The statement was issued by Chief Executive Dr Victor Asare Bampoe.

The Authority said the irregularities raised reasonable suspicion of fraud and abuse under the NHIS Provider Service Agreement.

Under the suspension, the pharmacies are barred from providing services or dispensing medicines under the NHIS.

The NHIA advised members seeking pharmaceutical services to use other credentialed NHIS providers across the country.

The Authority also warned healthcare providers against fraudulent practices, stating that any provider who defrauds or attempts to defraud the Scheme commits an offence punishable by a fine, imprisonment of up to 10 years, or both.
