The campaign targets market squares, lorry stations, schools, churches and mosques, where NHIA frontline staff conduct on-the-spot registration, membership renewals and public education on the NHIS benefit package.
It also promotes the *929# mobile renewal platform, the MyNHIS App, linking NHIS and Ghana cards, the Free Primary Health Care programme and the Ghana Medical Trust Fund initiative under the National Health Insurance Authority.
The NHIA Northern Regional Acting Director, Mr Alhassan Abdulai, officially launched the campaign in Kumbungu District and commended residents for the turnout.
He highlighted the ongoing free NHIS registration and renewal exercise, as well as the waiver of the one-month waiting period for new registrations and renewals from April 15 to May 31, 2026.
The launch was followed by a float through the principal streets of Kumbungu township. District Manager Mr James Sayibu Neindow and his team also set up a registration centre in the market and educated residents on the benefits of the scheme.
The NHIA said selected districts under the first phase of the Free Primary Health Care policy implementation will organise similar market storm campaigns from 14th to 18th May 2026.
