Deputy Minister for Health, Prof. Dr Grace Ayensu-Danquah, has directed stricter measures to strengthen surveillance and response systems at the Aflao Border as part of efforts to enhance Ghana’s preparedness against Ebola.

The Deputy Minister conducted an assessment of border operations, engaging frontline agencies to accelerate interventions and address gaps in disease detection and control.

During the visit, border officials reported that screening, surveillance and isolation protocols were already in place. However, they identified challenges including inadequate personal protective equipment (PPE), limited staffing and deteriorating COVID-19-era infrastructure.

Prof. Ayensu-Danquah inspected screening points, the isolation centre and the municipal hospital to assess the readiness and response capacity of health authorities.

She indicated that the government plans to establish modern and fully equipped border health facilities while increasing investments in personnel, logistics and essential supplies.

According to the Deputy Minister, the measures are intended to strengthen Ghana’s frontline defence against potential Ebola outbreaks and improve the country’s overall public health preparedness.
