The leadership of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) has rendered an unqualified apology to the Minister for Health, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, following a recent media attack directed at him. The apology was made during a meeting held today, where both parties also discussed key issues affecting nurses and the broader health sector.

Hon. Akandoh accepted the apology, urging the Association to prioritise constructive dialogue with government. He reaffirmed his commitment to building a strong partnership with healthcare professionals to enhance healthcare delivery nationwide.

Highlighting achievements of the current administration, the Minister pointed to the integration of 13,500 nurses onto the government payroll, the establishment of the Ghana Medical Training Fund (GMTF), and the retooling of health facilities across the country. He also referenced the payment of arrears on nursing training allowances, settlement of National Health Insurance claims, and the absorption of half of admission fees for nursing training institutions.

The Minister further pledged to oversee the full implementation of the collective bargaining agreement to improve conditions of service for nurses, while supporting broader health sector reforms aimed at achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC).

He encouraged the public and stakeholders to remain calm, assuring that government remains committed to addressing challenges within the health sector.

During the meeting, the GRNMA leadership also tabled several concerns affecting healthcare professionals, calling for urgent solutions to improve service delivery.

The delegation included former GRNMA President Alice Darkoa Asare-Allotey, immediate past President Dr. Krobea Asante, current President Perpetual Ofori-Ampofo, and General Secretary Dr. David Tenkorang-Twum.
