The delivery is expected to strengthen Ghana’s rail freight capacity as government efforts continue to modernise the railway sector and improve logistics efficiency.
According to the GRDA, the new locomotives and freight wagons will support cargo and container transportation across the country’s rail network.
The acquisition forms part of broader efforts to increase the role of rail transport in the movement of goods while reducing transportation costs.
Transport Minister Joseph Bukari Nikpe described the delivery as a major boost to the country’s railway infrastructure.
“Delivery of two locomotives significant addition to Ghana’s rail assets,” the minister stated.
He noted that the new rolling stock would enhance freight movement, improve operational efficiency and provide a more reliable and cost-effective means of transporting goods.
Hon. Nikpe further indicated that continued investment in the railway sector remains central to government’s plans to develop an integrated transport system that supports trade, creates jobs and improves connectivity for businesses and communities.
