The Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG) has declared a nationwide strike, effective Thursday, February 20, 2025, in protest against the appointment of Samuel Adom Botchway as the Registrar of Births and Deaths.

The decision was made by CLOGSAG’s National Executive Council (NEC) during a meeting on February 11, 2025, where members raised concerns about politically exposed persons being appointed to key roles within the Civil Service and Local Government.

In a statement issued on February 13, CLOGSAG’s Executive Secretary, Isaac Bampoe Addo, emphasized that the association had warned against Botchway’s appointment and would take industrial action if he assumed office.

“Mr Samuel Adom Botchway took office on Wednesday, February 12, 2025. The Association has no option but to call for a nationwide strike from Thursday, February 20, 2025,” the statement read.

CLOGSAG is urging all its members to stay home until further notice, insisting that the appointment of politically exposed individuals compromises the neutrality and integrity of the Civil Service. The association maintains that such appointments threaten the professionalism of the sector and must be addressed.
