The Office of the Special Prosecutor has extended an invitation to Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, former chairman of the dissolved Inter-ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM), to aid in investigations concerning suspected corruption and corruption-related offences in the mining sector.
In a press release issued on May 4, Professor Frimpong-Boateng acknowledged the invitation, stating, “Earlier today, I received a letter from the Office of the Special Prosecutor inviting me to assist the Office, ‘as a person necessary for the investigation' into suspected corruption and corruption-related offences in respect of the activities and expenditure of the dissolved Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM).”
He further revealed that he has formally expressed his willingness to attend the invitation and support the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) in its work.
Professor Frimpong-Boateng gained attention on April 20 when a leaked report authored by him on galamsey, or illegal mining, surfaced in the media.
The report implicated several officials from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in illegal mining activities.
Individuals mentioned in the report included prominent NPP member Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, Director of Communications at the Presidency Lord Commey, Information Minister Oppong Nkrumah, and others.
All those mentioned in the report have denied the allegations.
