Addressing the media in Accra, COP Donkor said the operation forms part of intensified efforts to curb transnational vehicle crime, which not only inflicts financial loss on victims but also damages Ghana’s international reputation and fuels organised criminal networks. She credited the success to close collaboration with the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority, international partners, and embassies of affected countries.
She disclosed that the Police recently worked with the Netherlands Embassy and Digitpol, a security firm cooperating with Dutch authorities, to track and recover stolen vehicles trafficked into Ghana. COP Donkor urged the public to remain cautious when purchasing vehicles, stressing the need for proof of ownership from the country of origin. She further advised that vehicles be verified with INTERPOL Accra before completing any purchase.
