The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Parliament has issued an order for Mr Kwasi Kwaning-Bosompem, the Controller and Accountant General, to appear before the committee to address specific questions. The scheduled appearance was part of the PAC's ongoing public hearing to consider the Auditor-General's report on the Public Accounts of Ghana.
However, Mr. Kwaning-Bosompem was absent from the scheduled appearance, sending his three deputies as representatives. This move was met with rejection by some members of the PAC. In response, Mrs Abena Osei Asare, Deputy Finance Minister, informed Mr James Klutse Aveedzi, the Chairman of PAC, that the Controller and Accountant General were unable to attend due to unforeseen circumstances.
Despite the absence of Mr. Kwaning-Bosompem, Mr. Aveedzi ruled that the committee should proceed with the hearing. The PAC has been conducting public hearings since January 29, 2024, to review the Auditor-General's reports on the Public Accounts of Ghana, covering Ministries, Departments, Agencies (MDAs), Public Boards, Corporations, and other Statutory Institutions for the year-ending December 31, 2022.
The PAC is expected to continue its proceedings until Friday, February 23, 2024.
