Korea Week 2026 celebrates growing Ghana–South Korea cultural ties

The growing popularity of Korean culture in Ghana took centre stage at the 2026 Korea Week festival, held at the Cedi Conference Centre of the University of Ghana, bringing together students, performers and cultural enthusiasts for a celebration of language, music and cultural exchange.

Organised by the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Ghana, the annual festival featured a Korean Speech Contest, a K-Pop Festival and a Cultural Exchange programme aimed at strengthening cultural ties between Ghana and South Korea.

Speaking at the event, the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Ghana, H.E. Park Kyong-sig, said the increasing interest in Korean culture reflects the growing friendship between the two countries.

“The Korean Wave is very strong around the world, and Ghana is no exception,” he said, noting that the festival continues to attract larger audiences and more contestants each year.

He described the event as an important platform for people-to-people diplomacy, expressing confidence that participants would serve as bridges in strengthening relations between Ghana and South Korea.

The festival attracted university students, Korean language learners, K-pop fans and members of the public, who showcased their talents through performances and competitions celebrating Korean culture.

Organisers said Korea Week has become one of the Embassy’s flagship cultural events in Ghana, promoting cultural diplomacy, educational exchange and stronger bilateral cooperation while fostering greater mutual understanding between the two countries.
