The Civil Service Council has commended the Ministry of Finance for its role in restoring stability to the economy, describing the Ministry’s recent performance as a sign of effective public sector leadership and sound economic management.
The commendation was made during a familiarisation visit by members of the Council to the Ministry, where discussions focused on economic management, institutional challenges, staff development and inter-agency collaboration.

Chairman of the Council, Dr Lawrence Akanweeke Kannae, praised officials of the Ministry for their efforts in navigating the country through economic difficulties. He cited the appreciation of the cedi against major foreign currencies and improving economic conditions as signs of progress.
“You have demonstrated commitment and dedication at a very critical period for the country. The economy is responding positively, and many Ghanaians are beginning to regain confidence,” he said.
Dr Kannae urged staff of the Ministry to maintain professionalism and support the government’s economic transformation agenda. He said the Council’s visits to Ministries, Departments and Agencies are aimed at strengthening collaboration, addressing operational challenges and improving service delivery.
He also called for stronger institutional coordination and logistical support for state institutions as part of the government’s resetting agenda.
The Chief Director of the Ministry of Finance thanked the Council for its support and highlighted the importance of training and professional development within the Civil Service.
He said recent fiscal reforms, including the implementation of the Commitment Authorisation system, have helped reduce waste and promote prudent use of public resources. He added that the leadership of the Finance Minister has contributed to economic recovery and renewed confidence in public financial management.
Dr Evans Aggrey-Darkoh also stressed the need for continuous staff development to equip public servants with skills required for policy formulation and international economic negotiations, including engagements with the International Monetary Fund.
He said the Ministry of Finance remains one of the key institutions supporting the development of a resilient and self-sustaining economy through strategic policy interventions.
The discussions also covered government flagship programmes and gender budgeting initiatives.
Members of the Civil Service Council present included Dr Esther Ofei-Aboagye, Kwame A. Tenkorang, Justice Agnes M.A. Dordzie, Charles Kwame Dondieu and Dr Evans A. Dzikum, together with directors and heads of units of the Ministry.
