President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has officially commissioned the refurbished Koforidua Sports Stadium and multi-purpose Youth Resource Centre.
The facility, with a 5,000-seater capacity, aims to provide a safe space for the talent development of the youth in the area.
Key features of the multi-purpose edifice include basketball, volleyball, and tennis courts, an eight-lane athletics track, and a dedicated spectators stand.
Additionally, the facility incorporates various amenities such as a Guidance and Counselling Centre, an ICT hub, skills and entrepreneurship development programs, as well as clinics and rehabilitation centres.
The project, initiated in 2018, was estimated to cost $1.8 million and aimed to upgrade the over 60-year-old Koforidua Stadium into a modern multi-purpose youth resource centre.
Similar facilities are set to be commissioned in the Upper West, Central, Volta, Western, and Bono regions in the coming weeks.
President Akufo-Addo also announced the authorization for the completion of four other projects under construction at the Kaneshie, Nyinahin, Navrongo, and Yendi sports complexes.
The Youth and Sports Minister, Mr. Mustapha Yusif, highlighted the government's commitment to sports infrastructure development, citing the construction of 154 Astroturfs across districts and regions in the country.
Pius Enam Hadzide, the Chief Executive Officer of the National Youth Authority, emphasized that the additional features of the stadium would play a crucial role in harnessing the talents of the youth for national development.
