Afua Asantewaa has successfully concluded her ambitious attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the longest individual singing marathon.
The existing record, set by an Indian in 2012, stood at 105 hours.
To surpass this feat, Asantewaa embarked on a remarkable five-day singing marathon, commencing at midnight on Sunday, December 24, and concluding at 7:00 am on December 29.
Asantewaa's dedication and endurance saw her singing for an impressive five days, six hours, and 55 minutes, officially surpassing the existing record.
The challenging feat took place at the Akwaaba Village.
After completing her record-breaking attempt, Asantewaa expressed gratitude to all who supported her throughout the marathon, including those who attended the event at the Akwaaba Village and those who followed remotely.
Reflecting on the journey, she humorously shared, “At a point, I kept asking which day it was, and I finally got to know that today is Friday. On behalf of my family, team, volunteers, the media, and Ghana Tourism Authority, I would like to say thank you to everyone who participated in this attempt; it has been a smooth journey and a very successful one.”
Asantewaa expressed hope that her remarkable achievement would positively impact Ghana's music industry and inspire youth to embrace new challenges. She emphasized, “There are a lot of things you can try.”
Acknowledging the support received from various quarters, she extended her gratitude, saying, “Thank you to the Vice President and every person; the list is endless…I am thankful to everyone and hope to see you this evening as we celebrate.”
