Political Scientist predicts real NPP 'Showdown' in February 2024 parliamentary primaries

Dr Jonathan Asante Otchere, a political scientist and lecturer at the University of , has suggested that the New Patriotic Party () is likely to witness a significant showdown during the February 2024 parliamentary primaries.

Dr Otchere made this statement while discussing the recent Presidential primaries, which saw Vice President Dr elected as the party's flagbearer for the 2024 general election.

According to Dr Otchere, the forthcoming February parliamentary primaries could pose a substantial challenge to the party and the leadership of Dr Bawumia. He cautioned that if the internal party affairs are not handled with care, the NPP may face internal divisions.

Dr Otchere stated, “The governing NPP could face internal cracks if the leadership of Dr Bawumia does not handle affairs well.”

He further highlighted that Members of (MPs) who supported Dr Bawumia while their constituents voted for Mr , the MP for , may need to align themselves with the Vice President to avoid potential challenges in the party's February 2024 parliamentary primaries.

He said, “So, I have dubbed it the real show-down for unity or disunity in the party in February next year because the parliamentary positions will not be easy. So, if the leadership of Dr. Bawumia is not careful, the party will crack even more.”
