First-year students report to senior high schools across Volta and Oti regions amid excitement for 2025 academic year

Hohoe and Kadjebi, Ghana, First-year students admitted to various Senior High Schools (SHS) across Ghana reported to their respective campuses on Saturday, October 18, with a sense of excitement and optimism for the new academic journey.
Visits by the Ghana News Agency (GNA) to Hohoe Evangelical Presbyterian Senior High School (HEPSS) in the Volta Region and Kadjebi-Asato Senior High School (KASEC) in the Oti Region observed freshers arriving with parents and guardians, carrying belongings and school supplies, eager to begin their secondary education.

Many students expressed determination to excel in their chosen programmes. Master Mawuenyega Korsitse, a first-year General Science student at HEPSS, said he was thrilled to join the Science stream, seeing it as a step toward fulfilling his dream of becoming a medical doctor. “I am very excited to be here. I have always wanted to study Science, and now that I have the opportunity, I will study hard to make my dream of becoming a doctor come true,” he stated.

Similarly, Miss Catherine Miyor, admitted to the Home Economics programme, shared her goal of pursuing a career in the hospitality and catering industry. “I’m happy to be in school. I will focus on my books so that I can achieve my dream of becoming a top chef and maybe open my own restaurant one day,” she said. At KASEC, Miss Mary Afenya, also a Home Economics student, expressed excitement about starting SHS and pledged to study diligently, respect teachers, and make her parents proud.

School authorities described the admission and registration process as smooth, with support systems in place for students and their families. Orientation sessions were underway to help freshers adjust to school life, understand academic expectations, school rules, and boarding arrangements.

Mr Mark Annor, Head of Science Department at KASEC, told the GNA that the school was fully prepared to receive new students, including the assignment of mentors to help them settle in. Parents accompanying their wards also praised the organisation and reception during the admission process.

The 2025 academic calendar officially begins for first-year SHS students with orientation and registration activities continuing in the coming days, paving the way for the commencement of formal academic work.
