Kasoa traffic lights need GHS10 million for restoration – MP

Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East, Phillis Naa Koryoo Okunnor, says malfunctioning traffic lights in Kasoa can be restored at a cost of GHS10 million.

According to her, the estimate was submitted by officials of the technical department of the Ghana Highways Authority (GHA), who assessed the extent of the damage in June 2025.

Despite an earlier assessment by the Awutu Senya East Municipal Assembly, all nine traffic light systems within the municipality remain non-functional, raising concerns over increasing vehicular knockdowns, particularly involving schoolchildren.

Speaking to Citi News during an engagement with trader associations on Thursday, October 2, the MP said:
“Per the assessment of the Highway Authority, we will need GHS10 million to restore the traffic lights. It’s a safety issue, and so we’re trying to raise the funds.”

She added that strict measures will be introduced to protect the systems, as the GHA concluded that trading activities contributed to the damage of the central control systems and signal lights
