The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has taken decisive action against Mr. Adjenim Boateng Adjei, the former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Public Procurement Authority (PPA), by filing new criminal charges against him. These charges stem from allegations of misusing public office for personal gain and manipulating procurement processes for unfair advantages in contract awards.
The charge sheet, submitted to the Criminal Division of an Accra High Court, outlines eight counts against Mr. Adjei. These charges underscore the seriousness of the accusations, which relate to unethical conduct and potential breaches of public trust.
Notably, an additional charge against Mr. Adjei's brother-in-law, Francis Kwaku Arhin, has been dropped. Initially implicated alongside Mr. Adjei, Mr. Arhin was accused of similar misconduct related to his role as CEO of Talent Discovery Limited. However, the OSP has decided to focus solely on Mr. Adjei in this latest legal action.
The genesis of these charges can be traced back to an investigative documentary titled “Contracts for Sale” by Manasseh Azure Awuni, which aired on the Multimedia Group. Following public outcry and scrutiny, President Akufo-Addo referred the case to the OSP for further investigation and prosecution.
Central to the allegations is the purported misuse of Talent Discovery Limited as a vehicle to secure public contracts, with Mr. Adjei allegedly holding a principal shareholder position in the company.
