Welder fined GH ¢6,000 for harming a businesswoman at Aboso

Mohammed Awal, a metal welder from Sun City, Aboso, has been fined GH¢6,000 for unlawfully causing harm to a businesswoman. The incident occurred on March 11, 2024, when Awal subjected the victim to severe beating, resulting in multiple wounds on her right leg.

Awal, 29, pleaded guilty and was convicted based on his plea. In addition to the fine, he faces a five-year prison sentence if he defaults on payment. The court also ordered him to compensate the victim with GH¢10,000 by April 30, 2024.

According to Police Superintendent Juliana Essel-Dadzie, the victim, who resides in New Site, , had sent products to her customer, Ibrahim Ali, who lived in the same house as Awal. When Ali was unavailable, the victim agreed to wait in the house. During her wait, Awal emerged from the bathroom, rebuked the victim for noise, and insulted her. Later, upon Awal's return, he assaulted the victim until she lost consciousness.

The victim was rescued by neighbours and taken to the Aboso Health Centre for treatment. Awal was subsequently arrested on March 18, 2024, by Ali and his friend Daniel Mandela, and handed over to the police for investigation.
