Mr. Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, Founder and Leader of the Movement for Change, has reaffirmed his commitment to establishing a Traders' Bank aimed at supporting traders across the country, particularly in improving their trading activities. Addressing market traders in the Western Region, Kyerematen emphasized the critical role of businesses, especially traders, in the growth and development of the nation.
He pledged to prioritize the welfare of traders if elected president, highlighting the Traders' Bank initiative as a means to provide easy access to loans for traders to boost their activities. Kyerematen expressed empathy for the struggles faced by Ghanaian traders, noting the impact on their families when sales are low.
Additionally, Kyerematen promised to review import VAT taxes, with plans to gradually eliminate duties and taxes within the first two years of his presidency. He outlined measures to reduce taxes at the port, which he believes will lead to a reduction in transport fares and the cost of food items, ultimately alleviating financial burdens on citizens.
The former Trade Minister also pledged to address environmental concerns, particularly the issue of illegal mining (‘galamsey'). He vowed to halt mining activities in water bodies and forest reserves, with a focus on restoring these areas to their natural state. Kyerematen proposed introducing a business model to empower locals to participate meaningfully in the mining sector, while making finance more accessible for responsible small-scale miners to acquire sophisticated equipment.
Highlighting the need for a change in voting patterns, Kyerematen urged Ghanaians to consider a new leadership direction, asserting that the country has witnessed limited development under the governance of both the New Patriotic Party and the National Democratic Congress. He expressed optimism that under his leadership, Ghana would experience significant progress and advancement.
