Court fines student for false claim of penis shrinkage

The District Court has imposed a fine of GH₵600 on Edmund Dela Adrah, a 21-year-old student, for falsely alleging that a passerby caused his penis to shrink. Failure to pay the fine would result in six months of imprisonment. Additionally, Adrah was required to sign a bond of good behaviour for 12 months, facing three months in prison if violated.

Meanwhile, Isaac Adukor, a 17-year-old sales representative and Adrah's accomplice was granted bail of Gh₵6,000 with one surety for making a similar claim. Adukor's case was adjourned to May 14, and the Social Enquiry Investigative Department was tasked with investigating his conduct before judgment, considering his age.

Both Adrah and Adukor pleaded guilty to charges of publishing false news and deceiving a public officer. Inspector Tetteh Nartey, prosecuting, revealed that the complainants were police officers from the Adjei Kojo District Police Command. On April 6, 2024, the police responded to a distress call about disturbances in the Kanewu neighbourhood, encountering the accused individuals and victim Abubakar Fatawu.

The police investigation revealed that Adrah and Adukor had accused Fatawu of causing their penises to shrink after shaking hands with him, inciting a crowd and nearly leading to Fatawu's lynching. However, a medical examination at the General Hospital found no abnormalities in their genitals.

Consequently, Adrah and Adukor were arrested for making false statements to cause fear and alarm. The court's decision highlights the seriousness of spreading false information and its potential consequences.
