Alhaji Umar Bodinga, the Municipal Chief Executive for in the , has issued a heartfelt plea to non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to provide urgent support for the reconstruction of the YWCA-31st December women's palm oil processing factory at Akyem Tafo. The call comes in the wake of a devastating inferno that ravaged the factory, causing extensive damage and destroying valuable equipment.

The fire, which consumed approximately 3000 gallons of palm oil worth over 1.2 million cedis, has left behind a scene of destruction and despair. With the Assembly unable to bear the costs of reconstruction alone, Alhaji Umar Bodinga emphasized the critical need for prompt assistance from organizations and stakeholders to revive the factory and restore hope to the affected women.

The tragic incident has thrown the future into uncertainty for around 100 artisanal female palm growers and labourers who relied on the factory for their livelihoods. While officers from the 's Bunso Fire Station have intervened to control the fire and launched an investigation into its cause, the community now faces the daunting task of rebuilding from the ashes.

The significance of the YWCA palm oil production extends beyond the local market, with products being exported to neighbouring West African nations and other countries. The devastating impact of the fire is felt not only locally but also internationally, affecting plans for shipments to Europe and the USA.

Ms. Joyce Asiamah, one of the affected individuals, shared her heartbreaking story of preparing shipments before losing everything in the inferno. With their livelihoods shattered and no source of hope in sight, she appealed to the government for assistance to alleviate their plight and prevent further hardship.

Established by former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyemang in 1990, the 31st December women's movement aims to empower women and promote financial stability. Beyond palm oil production, the project encompasses various initiatives, including shea butter making, bakery operations, and gari processing.

In light of the devastating fire, the community is in desperate need of support to rebuild the YWCA palm oil processing factory and restore hope to the affected women.
