Adom Appiah, the Ashanti Regional Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has defended Kwasi Nyantakyi's eligibility to contest the party's parliamentary primary for the Ejisu constituency. Appiah emphasized that Nyantakyi, the former president of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has not been legally convicted of corruption, making him qualified to vie for the seat.
Following the passing of the Ejisu Member of Parliament and Deputy Finance Minister, John Kumah, the NPP opened nominations for parliamentary aspirants. Nyantakyi is among the nine individuals who have picked up nomination forms for the seat.
Despite public outcry over Nyantakyi's candidacy, particularly in light of allegations of corruption stemming from the “Number 12” exposé, Appiah maintained that no court has proven Nyantakyi guilty, nor has Nyantakyi admitted guilt. Therefore, according to Appiah, Nyantakyi meets the requirements to contest the election.
Appiah emphasized that the vetting committee would review Nyantakyi's documents and make a decision on his candidacy. However, Appiah expressed his personal belief that Nyantakyi is eligible to contest the seat unless proven guilty by a competent court of jurisdiction.
