Trader remanded for false alarm of vanishing penis in Kasoa

A 20-year-old trader, Osman Mohammed, has been remanded by a District Court in Awutu Breku, , for allegedly making false claims that his penis had vanished, causing fear and panic in .

Mohammed faces charges of publication of false and deceit of a public officer. Additionally, he and his accomplices, Abdulah and Tamim (at large), are jointly charged with conspiracy to commit crime, assault, causing harm to Abdulai Abdul Rahaman Ibrahim (the complainant), and stealing 100,000 Naira.

During his court appearance, Mohammed's plea was not taken, and he is expected to reappear on April 11, 2024. The prosecution, led by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Thomas Sarfo and Sergeant Ernest Theodore Osei, explained that the complainant, a Nigerian from Kogi State, was assaulted following false reports of disappearing manhood in the area.

According to the prosecution, on March 25, 2024, the complainant, stranded after failing to locate a relative in , encountered the accused persons. Mohammed raised an alarm, falsely claiming that the complainant had caused his penis to vanish. Subsequently, the accused and others assaulted the complainant, who was later rescued by the police.

The complainant reported the theft of 100,000 Naira during the incident, and both he and Mohammed underwent medical examinations. While the complainant was treated and discharged, medical reports confirmed that Mohammed's penis was unaffected.

Mohammed's false claim and subsequent assault highlight the serious consequences of spreading misinformation and the need for thorough investigation before taking action.
