MTN Ghana donates robotics centre to Mamfe Girls Senior High School

As part of its 25th-anniversary celebrations, Mobile Telecommunications Network (MTN) Ghana has handed over a state-of-the-art Robotics Centre to Mamfe Girls Senior High School (MEGHISS), valued at GH¢ 2.28 million.

The Robotics Centre boasts a 100-seater hall equipped with partitions for Robotics training and practice, a dedicated Research room furnished with computers for both and students, Robotics equipment, furniture, and internet access. It is designed to serve as a training hub where students can explore, experiment, and innovate through hands-on experience, utilizing tools such as LEGO and Rev Robots, as well as 3D Printer Masking, commonly found in such laboratories.

Mr. Selorm Adadevoh, CEO of , highlighted the school's remarkable achievements in Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics () and Robotics, including being crowned two-time champions of the Robotic competition. He emphasized MTN's commitment to promoting digital skills training and education, particularly for young girls, to break gender barriers and foster innovation.

The MTN Foundation, in collaboration with various institutions, has previously provided Robotics facilities to other educational institutions, including the Christian Akua Birago Diawuo Library and Technology Hub at Akyem-Oda, the Dansoman Multi-Purpose Library, and the Wiamoase Technology Development Centre.

Professor Franklin Manu, Foundation Board Chair, reiterated the Foundation's dedication to allocating 75% of its annual spending to STEM/ICT related projects, aiming to bridge the digital skills gap in Ghana. He expressed confidence that the MEGHISS Robotics Centre, equipped with cutting-edge facilities, would empower students to excel in Robotics and achieve their future aspirations.

Mrs. Winifred Siebu Arthur, the headmistress of MEGHISS, expressed gratitude to MTN Ghana for the Robotics Centre, describing it as a milestone in the school's journey towards the future. She highlighted the school's selection to test-run Robotics and Engineering as subjects in the government's new curriculum program, emphasizing the pivotal role of the Robotics Centre in facilitating this initiative.

Established in 1984, Mamfe Methodist Girls High School has evolved from a community day school and mission school to become one of the leading girls' schools on the Akuapem ridge, with a focus on excellence in STEM education and Robotics.
