The countdown is on for the highly anticipated fifth edition of the Kwahu Mountain Marathon, with registration slated to close on March 16, 2024. Scheduled for March 30, 2024, the marathon promises to be a thrilling event, drawing athletes and spectators alike to the picturesque Kwahu Mountains.
Organized by the Marathon Foundation, Ghana (MFG) in partnership with the Kwahu Traditional Council, the 2024 edition carries the theme “Stronger Together – Running into the Future.” Athletes still have the chance to register online through the official platform, www.kwahumarathon.com, or via GR-Code.
The Ghana Athletics Association (GAA) has granted approval for the event, acknowledging its significance as both a competitive sporting spectacle and a vibrant addition to the Kwahu Easter festivities. In recognition of its role in promoting athletics and fostering community engagement, the GAA has issued a certificate of recognition to the organizers.
Preparations are in full swing, with a pre-event float planned for March 28, featuring sponsors showcasing their brands alongside lively brass band music and giveaways. This vibrant spectacle aims to build excitement for the marathon while enhancing the overall Easter celebrations in Kwahu.
Dr. Edward Kwadwo Boahen, Operations Director of Marathon Foundation Ghana, emphasized the commitment to delivering a successful event. Registration, closing on March 15, 2024, ensures thorough participant screening and preparation, prioritizing the health and safety of all involved.
The marathon, covering a distance of approximately 42 kilometres from Nkawkaw to Mpraeso, promises innovation by combining sports, entertainment, healthcare, and brand exposure for sponsors. Dr Boahen highlighted the event's potential to serve as a tourist attraction and a platform for youth talent development, with plans to engage relevant government bodies for support and recognition.
With collaboration from the Ghana Police, Ghana National Fire Service, National Ambulance, and healthcare professionals, organizers are committed to ensuring a secure and enjoyable experience for participants and spectators alike.
