MP Cynthia Mamle Morrison organizes maiden food competition to promote cooking skills in Agona West

Mrs. Cynthia Mamle Morrison, Member of for , recently spearheaded a maiden food competition involving 11 selected basic schools in the municipality. The initiative aimed to equip students with cooking skills while promoting the appreciation and consumption of healthy Ghanaian foods, thereby reducing their preference for foreign cuisine.

Speaking to the media after the event, Mrs Morrison highlighted the importance of instilling cooking abilities in students, emphasizing the value of preparing delicious and nutritious local dishes. She also emphasized the significance of teaching male students how to cook, stressing the benefits for both themselves and their families.

The competition featured a variety of Ghanaian delicacies, including Ampesi and nkontomire stew, kokonte and groundnut soup, fufu and palm soup, and jollof rice, among others. Mrs. Morrison affirmed that the event would be a permanent fixture, aimed at fostering students' cooking skills and fostering a love for Ghanaian cuisine.

She further outlined plans to expand the competition to other towns within the constituency, with the finals scheduled for August in Agona Swedru, where awards will be presented to the best-performing school and student.

Mr. Bismark Offei, Agona West Municipal Director of Education, commended Mrs. Morrison for initiating the competition, acknowledging its positive impact on students' practical skills development. He highlighted the financial challenges faced by home economics students in acquiring materials for practicals and praised Mrs. Morrison for covering all expenses related to the competition.

Additionally, Mr. Samuel Osei Somuah, Agona West Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (), lauded Mrs. Morrison's benevolence and encouraged students to take the competition seriously, as it could potentially shape their future careers in cooking.
