National Commission on Culture (NCC) prioritizes cultural preservation during Heritage Month

The (NCC) has announced that this year's Heritage Month will focus on repairing the fractures in Ghana's cultural foundation to ensure its preservation for future generations.

Nana Otuo Owoahene Acheampong, Executive Director of the Commission, emphasized that the agenda has evolved from mere rhetoric to action-oriented initiatives. These initiatives aim to celebrate Ghana's heritage through a series of cultural events designed to revive the cultural essence of the nation.

The announcement came during the launch of the 12th edition of Ghana Culture Week by the Ghana Culture Forum. The event, scheduled from March 4 to 24, forms part of the activities commemorating Ghana Heritage Month under the theme: “Cultivating Cultural Capital: Nurturing Ghana's Legacy for Africa's Renaissance”.

Speaking at a press briefing following the launch, the Executive Director highlighted the significance of cultivating Ghana's cultural capital. He stressed the strategic and business-oriented approach to leveraging the nation's rich cultural heritage for the benefit of its people and the broader African Renaissance.

The theme reflects a commitment to transformative actions aimed at strengthening and preserving Ghana's cultural foundation, ensuring its vibrancy for future generations.

Scheduled events for Heritage Month include a media campaign, a dialogue focusing on Ghana's traditional textile print, Kente, and its intersection with modernity. Additionally, an interschool debate, a symposium on Ghana Culture Day, and presentations on African and film screenings will take place.

Ghana Culture Week, a flagship event of the Ghana Culture Forum, was inaugurated in 2012. It serves as a platform to commemorate Ghanaian culture and its significance in national development. The event features symposiums, artistic displays, and cultural expressions aimed at promoting and preserving Ghana's cultural heritage.

The NCC's emphasis on repairing Ghana's cultural foundation underscores its commitment to safeguarding the nation's cultural identity and heritage, ensuring its endurance and relevance in the years to come.
