One dead after clash between Osino Presby students and residents of Nsuapemso

Following a violent clash between students and residents of the Nsuapemso community in the Fanteakwa South District, police officers have been deployed to Osino Presby Senior High and Technical School to maintain peace and prevent further escalation.

The confrontation, which occurred on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, resulted in the tragic death of one individual and the burning of vehicles. Tensions had been brewing since a previous altercation the day before when a student allegedly confiscated a phone from a community member during a debate and subsequently assaulted him.

Seeking retaliation, community members returned the next day, leading to a violent confrontation with the students. During the clash, six individuals attempted to set fire to the boys' dormitory but were thwarted by students. One of the attackers was apprehended, subjected to severe beating, and later pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.

Additionally, reports indicate that students retaliated by setting fire to a vehicle belonging to one of the community members.

In response to the escalating situation, the Fanteakwa South District Security Council (DISEC) held an emergency meeting and swiftly dispatched police officers from the district, supported by reinforcements from . Their objective is to restore order and ensure the safety of all parties involved.

The deployment of police personnel to Osino Presby underscores the seriousness of the situation and the authorities' commitment to quelling violence and maintaining peace in the area. As investigations into the incident continue, efforts are underway to de-escalate tensions and foster dialogue between the school and the affected community.
