Senegal clinches top spot in AFCON Round of 16 with victory over Guinea

Defending champions secured their place at the top of the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations () Group B and stamped their entry into the Round of 16 with a convincing 2-0 victory over in Bouake.

The Lions of Teranga displayed their prowess with second-half goals by Abdoulaye Seck and Iliman Ndiaye.

Having won their first two matches, had already secured advancement to the next phase. However, the battle for the top spot ensued, with trailing by two points.

The deadlock in the match was finally broken just after the hour mark when Abdoulaye Seck capitalized on a Krepin Diatta assist to give Senegal the lead. Guinea, realizing their chances of progressing were in jeopardy, launched a desperate search for an equalizer.
