TEWU-TUC joins nationwide strike over unpaid Tier 2 pension contributions: Ghana News

The and Educational Workers Union of , Ghana (-TUC) has joined the Senior Staff Association of of Ghana (SSA-UoG) in a nationwide industrial action due to the government's non-payment of Tier 2 pension contributions for nine months.

In a statement, Mr. Mark Dankyira Korankye, the General Secretary of -TUC, urged members in public to show solidarity by participating in the ongoing strike initiated by the SSA-UoG.

The primary issues include the outstanding Tier 2 pension payments and the restoration of stopped agreed allowances, both raised in petitions to the in October 2023.

Mr. Korankye emphasized the importance of addressing these issues promptly, stating, “We call on the government to immediately pay the nine-month Tier 2 pension arrears of workers in public universities to ensure dignified retirement.”

He urged the government to swiftly respond to the concerns to maintain the smooth operation of the country's public universities and prevent disruptions in the academic calendar.

The nationwide strike was declared by the SSA-UoG and the Federation of Universities Senior Staff Association of Ghana, starting on Friday, January 19, 2024.
