AngloGold Ashanti hands over refurbished Anyinam Health Centre to Ghana Health Service

, Obuasi Mine, has officially handed over a revitalized health facility in Anyinam, a suburb of Obuasi in the , to the .

The upgraded facility, refurbished at a cost exceeding GHS 700,000, will now operate as a health centre, offering comprehensive healthcare services to the residents of Anyinam and neighbouring communities.

The refurbished health facility, which initially served as a clinic, has undergone significant improvements.

New features include a placenta pit for natural medical waste degradation, an in-house laboratory, a dispensary, two additional consulting rooms, an extra washroom, air conditioners, and a sluice room for efficient human waste disposal.

Mr. Emmanuel Baidoo, Senior Manager-Sustainability of , expressed gratitude to all stakeholders for fostering peaceful coexistence between the mine and its host communities.

He emphasized the importance of quality and affordable healthcare to development, aligning with the company's 10-year plan's objective of ‘Improved Accessibility to Quality Healthcare.'

The upgraded facility is expected to provide residents of Anyinam with timely and quality health services, eliminating the need to far for healthcare access.

Mr. Baidoo urged the health centre's management to adopt effective maintenance practices to preserve the facility for future generations.

AngloGold Ashanti's commitment to enhancing healthcare in Obuasi was underscored by Mr Baidoo, who highlighted collaborative efforts with GIZ, including training 150 health professionals on infectious disease prevention, cervical , and maternal health.

Additionally, 8,000 individuals underwent screenings, were registered for the scheme, and medical equipment was distributed to health facilities.

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Obuasi, Mr Elijah Adansi-Bonah, commended AngloGold Ashanti for complementing the government's efforts in health infrastructure provision.

Nana Guahyia Oduropanin Birikorang, the Edubiasehene, appealed to AngloGold Ashanti to consider elevating the facility to hospital status due to the growing population.

Madam Margaret Yaa Manu, the Municipal Health Director, welcomed the enhanced services offered by the refurbished facility and urged community members to collaborate with healthcare workers to improve health outcomes.

The handover ceremony marks another milestone in AngloGold Ashanti's ongoing efforts to contribute to the well-being of the communities in which it operates
