Be more efficient, not miss opportunities we create - Victor Osimhen ready to carry Nigeria's AFCON dreams

All eyes are on Nigerian star as he aims to lead the Super Eagles to glory in the ongoing TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations Côte d'Ivoire 2023. As the reigning Africa Footballer of the Year, Osimhen faces high expectations but remains focused on the mission.

Speaking from Abidjan, Osimhen expressed his confidence, saying, “I feel good. The whole team is focused on the mission.”

The SSC Napoli forward, fresh off a Scudetto triumph, is eager to bring success to and end a decade-long title drought.

Reflecting on 's football legacy, Osimhen stated, “We are the country of Jay-Jay Okocha, of Nwankwo Kanu, our illustrious elders of whom we are the heirs, we must restore this image so dear to our heart.”

Despite the challenges, Osimhen embraces the pressure, stating, “I come from far away, I made a lot of sacrifices to realize the dream of becoming a professional footballer. I don't take anything for granted. I always challenge myself on the pitch.”

Idolizing Didier Drogba in his youth, Osimhen finds special significance in playing in Côte d'Ivoire, Drogba's homeland. “Participating in a TotalEnergies CAF in the native land of my idol is an honour for me,” he remarked.

Nigeria's next challenge is against Côte D'Ivoire, the host country. Osimhen acknowledged the difficulty but emphasized efficiency in front of goal. “Côte d'Ivoire has excellent players; our objective will be to be more efficient in front of goal, not to miss the opportunities we create.”
