Ghana secures convincing 2-0 lead in FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup qualifier against Senegal

Ghana's U-20 women's national football team, the , showcased an impressive performance in the first leg of the U-20 Women's against , securing a 2-0 victory with two first-half goals from Tracey Twum.

The match kicked off with an early chance for the in the 2nd minute when Maafia Nyame's free-kick narrowly missed its target.

However, Ghana's defence, led by Afi Amenyaku, swiftly denied 's goal-scoring attempt in the 4th minute.

Ghana took the lead in the 5th minute with a beautiful play initiated by Maafia Nyame and Wasiima Mohammed in midfield. Tracey Twum capitalized on the opportunity, confidently finding the back of the net for the opening goal.

Two minutes later, Twum struck again, increasing Ghana's lead to 2-0 with a well-placed volley that hit the bar before landing in the net.

The first half saw additional goal-scoring opportunities for Helen Alormenu and Maafia Nyame, but Senegal's defence held firm.

As the half concluded, Ghana maintained its 2-0 advantage.

In the second half, Success Ameyaa entered the game, replacing the injured Wasiima Mohammed.

The Black Princesses continued their offensive efforts, seeking more goals, but Senegal's improved defensive performance thwarted their attempts.

Martha Persis Oteng made her debut in the 85th minute, replacing Maafia Nyame, as Ghana aimed to maintain control of the match. Beline Nyarkoh had a final chance in the 91st minute, but her effort narrowly missed the target.

Ghana secured a convincing 2-0 win in the first leg, and attention now turns to the second leg fixture scheduled for Sunday, January 21, 2024, at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

The Black Princesses will aim to build on their lead and secure qualification for the U-20 Women's Cup.
