No one should bring their own players – Otumfuo warns against influence in Black Stars selection

Asantehene Otumfuo Nana Osei Tutu II has called on newly appointed Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams to take decisive action in restoring the Black Stars to their former glory. During a meeting with the minister, Otumfuo expressed deep concern over the national team’s decline in recent years, attributing it to nepotism within the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

“The Black Stars have been disgraceful these days. You have to get the Black Stars on the winning track,” Otumfuo stated, urging Adams to ensure that only deserving players are selected for the team. He warned against individuals influencing player call-ups based on personal interests rather than merit.

Ghana’s senior national team has struggled in recent years, failing to advance past the group stage in their last three major tournaments. The team also missed out on qualification for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

With the Black Stars set to regroup next month for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar, Otumfuo’s remarks resonate with many Ghanaians eager to see a turnaround in the team’s fortunes.
