Government to support victims of Accra Central Police Barracks fire -Muntaka

Interior Minister Mohammed-Mubarak Muntaka has assured victims of the recent fire outbreak at the Police Barracks opposite the Greater Accra Regional Headquarters in Accra Central of government support as recovery efforts continue.

The Minister, accompanied by the Inspector-General of Police and the Chief Fire Officer, visited the scene to assess the extent of the damage, interact with affected residents and offer assurances of assistance.

He said arrangements were being made to provide temporary accommodation for displaced families while plans for the reconstruction of the barracks are being finalised.

According to Hon. Muntaka, affected residents will also receive cash assistance, clothing and other relief items through the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO).

The Minister commended the Inspector-General of Police, members of the Police Management Board and the Ghana National Fire Service for their response to the incident and efforts to ensure the safety of residents.

He noted that the government would continue working with relevant agencies to implement measures aimed at preventing similar incidents in the future.

As part of the visit, Hon. Muntaka also visited a police officer who sustained injuries during the fire and is receiving treatment at the Police Hospital.

He expressed his support for the injured officer, commended the medical team for their care and assured him of government assistance throughout his recovery.

The Minister said the government remains committed to supporting affected families as recovery and rebuilding efforts progress.
