Personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) from the Techiman Municipal Fire Station responded to a fatal road traffic accident at Akumadan in the Offinso North District of the Ashanti Region on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, following a distress call received at about 1:57 p.m.
According to the GNFS, the accident involved a head-on collision between a Nissan Caravan with registration number BA-2913-14 and a Shacman trailer with registration number GT-9771-25.

Preliminary investigations indicated that the trailer was travelling from Techiman towards Kumasi, while the Nissan Caravan was travelling from Kumasi towards Techiman when the crash occurred.
The Fire Service said 14 persons were onboard the Nissan Caravan, while two persons were in the trailer. The occupants of the trailer escaped unhurt.

The Nissan Caravan was destroyed, while the trailer sustained partial damage to its head.
Ten persons, made up of four females, six males and a boy, died instantly at the scene.
Four injured victims were rushed to the Nkenkansu Government Hospital for treatment, but two female victims later died, bringing the death toll to 12.
According to the GNFS, one male victim in critical condition was later transferred to the Techiman Holy Family Hospital for further treatment, while another male victim remains on admission at the Nkenkansu Government Hospital.

The deceased were handed over to the Police and transported to the Nkenkansu Government Hospital morgue for preservation and investigations.
The rescue team, led by Station Officer Two Osei Theophilus, also salvaged personal belongings, parcels and the battery of the Nissan Caravan.
The cause of the accident is under investigation.
The GNFS urged motorists to exercise caution and strictly observe road safety regulations to help prevent road crashes.
