Police arrest three suspects for narcotics possession and attempted GH¢100,000 bribery

KOFORIDUA, 11 May 2026 – The Eastern Regional Police Command has arrested three suspects following an intelligence-led operation that led to the seizure of 1,600 parcels of suspected Indian hemp and an attempted GH¢100,000 bribery of officers.

According to the Police, the operation was conducted on 10 May 2026 by the Regional Police Intelligence Department following a tip-off about narcotics stored at Akosombo-Bonya.

Officers reportedly intercepted a Hyundai Rhino truck with registration number GR 5724-15 near Krobo Girls Senior High School and tracked it to a location near Atua Government Hospital, where suspects were transferring sacks into a Howo Zonda Tipper Truck with registration number GN 7948-21.

Police said some suspects fled into a nearby bush, but both vehicles and the cargo were secured.

A suspect identified as Solomon Tettey, 39, later approached officers claiming ownership of the vehicles and the consignment, which he alleged was bound for Nigeria.

Police stated that he attempted to bribe officers with GH¢100,000, of which GH¢90,000 was transferred via Mobile Money and GH¢10,000 given in cash as part of a controlled operation to secure evidence.

He was subsequently arrested after reinforcement from the Regional Counter-Terrorism Unit and Odumase Police. Two accomplices, Joshua Nartey and Teye Nartey, were later arrested at the Regional Headquarters.

The suspects are in custody with exhibits and have been handed over to the Regional Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.
