Accra, 20th February 2026,President John Dramani Mahama has officially assented to the 24-Hour Economy Authority Bill, marking a significant step in Ghana’s efforts to boost economic activity and create more jobs through extended operational hours for businesses.
The new law establishes the 24-Hour Economy Authority, tasked with overseeing, regulating, and facilitating round-the-clock operations across key sectors including hospitality, transport, entertainment, and retail.

The Authority is empowered to implement policies that encourage businesses to operate beyond conventional hours while ensuring public safety, labor protection, and fair regulatory practices.
Speaking on the move, the Presidency highlighted that the 24-Hour Economy Authority aims to stimulate economic growth, enhance service delivery, and increase employment opportunities by promoting an environment where businesses can operate efficiently at all hours.
The enactment of this bill follows months of consultations with stakeholders across government, private sector, and labor unions, who have emphasized the potential for boosting Ghana’s competitiveness and accommodating the needs of a modern, urbanizing population.
With the bill now law, the government has urged businesses and investors to collaborate closely with the Authority to ensure smooth implementation and maximize the benefits of a vibrant, 24-hour economy.
This development positions Ghana among countries embracing extended economic activities as a tool for innovation, growth, and job creation.
