55,600 New voters registered in Volta Region limited registration exercise

The has reported a total of 55,600 new voters registered in the during the recently concluded limited voter registration exercise.

Among these newly registered voters, 28,142 are males, and 27,458 are females. A total of 1,394 individuals were challenged during the registration process on the grounds of being minors.

This information was disclosed in a document provided by Mr. Eric Dzakpasu, the Volta Regional Director of the , to the .

In the Municipality, a total of 4,922 applicants were registered during the exercise. Out of these, 139 individuals were challenged, with 111 of them subsequently cleared by the review committee.

Nana Oduro Numapau, the Municipal Officer of the Electoral Commission, described the limited registration exercise as peaceful and successful.

He commended the effective cooperation of the representatives of various political parties and also praised the applicants for their tolerance and good behavior, which contributed to the smooth execution of the exercise.

Nana Oduro Numapau encouraged citizens who wish to replace their voter cards or transfer their votes to take advantage of the ongoing replacement of the voter identification card and transfer exercise.

The limited registration exercise, which commenced on September 12, 2023, and lasted for 21 days, aimed to enroll eligible citizens aged 18 and above onto the electoral roll. It took place at the Electoral Commission's metropolitan, municipal, and district offices across the country.

The conclusion of the exercise on October 2, 2023, marked an important step in the Electoral Commission's preparations for the upcoming local assembly election and the general election scheduled for 2024.
