Effutu, Ajumako, Akyempim to cooperate with Lands Commission for land management

A stakeholders' engagement held in has resulted in a resolution to collaborate with the Central Regional Lands Commission to ensure the judicious use of land in accordance with sustainable principles, aiming to mitigate conflicts in the area.

Key figures present at the meeting included Neenyi Ghartey VII, Oma Odefe, Obirifo Ahor Ankobea II, Omanhen of Gomoa Akyempim, and a representative of Obrempong Nyanful Krampah XI, Omanhen of Gomoa Ajumako Traditional Areas. They pledged to work alongside the Lands Commission to ensure that land development aligns with the objectives of the Land Act, 2008 (ACT 767), fostering peace and development in their communities.

Representatives from the Municipal, Gomoa West, and Central Districts, as well as the Effutu Divisional Police Command, also participated, contributing suggestions to address land-related issues in the region.

The meeting, organized by the Central Regional Directorate of the Land Commission, aimed to address frequent land litigations that occasionally escalate into violence, promoting a peaceful environment for all activities.

Mr. Kwame Kwaasi Dansu, Chairman of the Central Regional Lands Commission, highlighted longstanding boundary disputes between traditional areas as a significant concern. He emphasized the importance of prudent land management to foster development and urged stakeholders to collaborate effectively to bring about positive change.

Security agencies, particularly the Police, were urged to enforce laws governing land acquisition to maintain order. Mr. Dansu emphasized the need for responsible land management, citing examples of countries that have benefited from prudent land administration.

He called for an end to the indiscriminate sale of land to developers, stressing that land resources should benefit entire communities, not just a select few. Mr. Dansu advocated for strategic allocation of land for essential amenities like markets, schools, and factories to drive economic growth and discourage migration in search of nonexistent opportunities.
