The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Minority has raised concerns about the Education Minister's decision to prioritize the rebranding of public basic schools over addressing critical challenges facing basic education in the country. Dr Clement Abas Apaak, the Deputy Ranking Member of the Parliament Education Committee and NDC Member of Parliament (MP) for Bulsa South criticized the Minister's focus on repainting schools in blue and white colours and introducing corresponding uniforms while significant issues remain unresolved.
Dr Apaak highlighted several pressing challenges affecting public basic schools in Ghana, including delays in the release of Capitation Grants, infrastructural deficits such as poor toilet facilities, lack of textbooks, and unpaid utility bills leading to disconnections. He emphasized that basic school administrators are struggling to manage their schools due to inadequate funding and neglect.
In light of these challenges, Dr Apaak questioned the Minister's priorities and urged him to redirect resources towards addressing the urgent needs of public basic schools instead of embarking on unnecessary rebranding initiatives. He called on Ghanaians to join in resisting this initiative and advocated for funds to be allocated to tackle the long-standing issues faced by public basic schools.
