Travellers stranded as intercity STC terminal on Good Friday

Travellers at the Intercity STC Terminal in Tudu, , found themselves stranded on Good Friday as floods of passengers converged with a shortage of buses to convey them to their destinations.

According to reports from passengers speaking to the Ghana Agency (GNA), individuals heading to destinations such as , Aflo in the , and parts of the region were left waiting for hours without any buses available for boarding.

Ms. Helen Adjo, a passenger bound for Aflo, expressed frustration at the long wait, stating that she had arrived at the terminal as early as 7:00 AM and was still in the queue by 10:30 AM.

Similarly, Madam Stella Ashinyo, a regular patron, arrived at 7:00 AM only to be informed that the bus to the region would not depart until 2:00 PM. She noted that while buses were usually available on regular days, the situation was exacerbated by the Easter celebration.

At the terminal near station in , although buses were present, drivers encountered difficulties in filling their vehicles to capacity. Mr. Joshua Ntim, a driver, reported loading his vehicle at 7:00 AM and was still waiting at 11:00 AM, attributing the slower pace to many individuals have already travelled in the preceding days for the holiday.

Meanwhile, the Metro Mass Transit (MMT) buses and the Aayalolo Bus Rapid Transit terminals in Accra remained empty, with operations suspended for the holiday.

Last week, the (NRSA) launched its Easter Road Safety campaign, emphasizing the importance of drivers adhering to speed limits and exercising caution. Mr. Felix Owusu, Greater Accra Regional Planning Manager of the NRSA, cautioned drivers against taking advantage of the influx of travellers at terminals, warning that such behaviour could lead to accidents and fatalities.
