Bolgatanga Health Directorate commends physician assistant for transforming healthcare delivery

The Bolgatanga Municipal Director of the Ghana Health Service (GHS), Mr Stephen Bordotsiah, has praised Principal Physician Assistant Raymond Adoganga for his outstanding contribution to healthcare delivery during his eight-year tenure at the Sumbrungu Sub-Municipality.

Speaking at a farewell ceremony organised by staff of the Sumbrungu East and West Sub-Municipalities, Mr Bordotsiah described Mr Adoganga as an exceptional leader, a team player and a dedicated health professional whose leadership had significantly improved healthcare services in the area.

Mr Adoganga has been reassigned to head the Sherigu Sub-Municipality.

According to the Municipal Health Director, Sumbrungu witnessed remarkable improvements in healthcare delivery under Mr Adoganga’s leadership through effective collaboration with stakeholders to address key health challenges.

He expressed confidence that Mr Adoganga would replicate the same success in Sherigu, a sub-municipality he described as requiring stronger leadership to improve healthcare services.

Staff of the Sumbrungu East and West Sub-Municipalities presented Mr Adoganga with a citation, describing him as a dedicated leader whose professionalism, guidance and commitment to both patients and colleagues had earned widespread admiration.

Mr Adoganga assumed responsibility for the Sumbrungu Sub-Municipality in November 2014 and spearheaded several initiatives to strengthen healthcare delivery.

During his tenure, the number of Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds increased from three to eight, in addition to the existing Sumbrungu Health Centre. The facilities were also connected to electricity, improving the storage of medicines and vaccines.

Under his leadership, the Sumbrungu Health Centre emerged as the best-performing health facility in Ghana during the implementation of the Mother and Baby Friendly Initiative between 2016 and 2018, a programme supported by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and implemented in Ghana, Bangladesh and Malaysia to promote breastfeeding.

Mr Adoganga also worked with traditional leaders, assembly members and community stakeholders to regulate social activities, including graduation and passing-out ceremonies, as part of efforts to curb teenage pregnancy in the area.

He further oversaw the renovation of the dilapidated nurses’ quarters at Sumbrungu, improving accommodation for health workers.

Addressing the gathering, Mr Adoganga described his posting to Sumbrungu as the most significant experience of his professional career and pledged to apply the knowledge and experience gained to improve healthcare delivery at his new station.

He expressed appreciation to the Bolgatanga Municipal Health Directorate, the Municipal Assembly, the area’s Member of Parliament, traditional authorities, assembly members and development partners for their support throughout his tenure.

The incoming Physician Assistant for Sumbrungu, Mr David Anankpieng, commended his predecessor for laying a solid foundation and pledged to build on the achievements to further improve healthcare services in the sub-municipality.
