Mission Rabies, in collaboration with the Kpone-Katamanso Municipal Assembly and the Veterinary Service Department, has started a free mass vaccination exercise against rabies within the municipality.
The vaccination programme, which began on June 20, is expected to run until July 31 in selected communities across the municipality.

The communities targeted for the exercise include Kpone Barrier, Kokompe, Shangai, and Kpone Township.
The Kpone-Katamanso Municipal Veterinary Officer, Dr Emmanuel Kwao Pecku, said the exercise was necessary due to reported cases of rabies within the municipality.
He warned that rabies could be 100 per cent fatal if proper measures were not taken to control its spread, adding that children were often the main victims of dog bites.
Dr Pecku urged residents, especially pet owners, to make their dogs and other animals available for vaccination to help prevent further infections.
He also expressed concern over the large number of stray dogs in the municipality, noting that they could be contributing to the increasing number of suspected rabies cases.
The Veterinary Officer stressed that mass vaccination remained the most effective way to control the disease, particularly in communities where dog and animal bites were common.
